10,000 Pakistanis obtained political asylum by misusing UK student visas, FIA reveals
ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior met under the chairmanship of Raja Khurram Nawaz, in which Director General FIA Usman Anwar briefed the lawmakers on the issue of deported Pakistanis and illegal immigration.
During the briefing, the FIA chief said that the European Union and several other countries have expressed concern over the illegal entry of Pakistanis. He said that people traveling abroad through illegal means are damaging Pakistan’s international reputation.
Usman Anwar told the committee that 7,000 Pakistanis who went to Azerbaijan on a visit visa this year did not return to Pakistan. He also disclosed that 580 Pakistanis who went to Belarus could not return.
DGFIA further informed that around 10,000 Pakistanis have misused student visas and sought political asylum in the UK. He further said that new human trafficking routes have emerged through Malaysia and Uzbekistan.
According to the FIA, in 2025, 39,786 people trying to travel abroad without proper documents were offloaded, while more than 3,000 people were prevented from traveling due to stop lists and Interpol alerts.
He also revealed that 175 Pakistanis arrested in Libya have been repatriated. The FIA reported a 75 percent reduction in organized begging networks and a 31 percent reduction in cases of fake documents.
