WASHINGTON – The United States delayed the release of details on its new deal with Iran at the request of Pakistan and Qatar, US Vice President JD Vance said, amid a growing dispute over the deal’s contents and renewed tensions in the Middle East.
Vance revealed that negotiators from Pakistan and Qatar have asked Washington not to immediately publish the full text of the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran.
“We’re trying to release it today because we want the American people to know what’s in the agreement,” Vance said, adding that the text would be made public “at least” by Friday morning. He defended the deal, calling it “a good deal for the American people.”
The deal has already drawn criticism from hardline factions within Israel and President Donald Trump’s own Republican Party, who argue that Washington has offered Tehran too many concessions.
Amid the backlash, Trump forcefully rejected suggestions that his administration had gone soft on Iran. The US president warned that if Tehran failed to comply or misbehaved, Washington would “start raining bombs on their heads,” apparently underscoring the fragile nature of the developments.
Adding to the controversy are reports that the memorandum includes a provision for the immediate lifting of sanctions on Iran’s oil and petrochemical sectors. Analysts say such a move could add billions of dollars to Iran’s economy and significantly increase the country’s energy exports.
Despite diplomatic efforts, regional tensions persist. Iran has accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire in Lebanon and warned that continued violations could jeopardize the deal. Lebanese media also reported Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already uncertain situation.
With the full text of the US-Iran deal still under wraps and political criticism mounting, attention is now focused on the document’s expected release and its potential impact on regional security, sanctions policy and Middle East diplomacy.
