A meeting of the Apex Committee on the security situation of Balochistan was held in Quetta under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
QUETTA – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Quetta on a one-day visit, where he will chair a high-level APEX committee meeting to focus on the security situation in Balochistan during the ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Governor Balochistan, Chief Minister Balochistan, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police and other senior officials welcomed the Prime Minister at Quetta Airport while the Federal Ministers also accompanied him during the visit.
The high-level meeting will bring together top civilian and military leadership, where the prime minister is expected to receive a detailed briefing on the ongoing counter-terrorism operations and latest security measures in the province.
The talks will focus on improving law and order, strengthening security across Balochistan, intensifying efforts to eradicate terrorism and reviewing the overall security strategy of the province.
According to the sources, important policy decisions are expected in the Apex Committee meeting which can significantly affect the next steps of the government regarding security and counter-terrorism in Balochistan.
On Wednesday, DG ISPR said 42 civilians and security personnel were martyred and 54 militants were killed as a result of deadly terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations across Balochistan since July 5.
Addressing a press briefing, ISPR chief Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry said four civilians, 27 policemen and 11 soldiers were killed in the attacks in Hana Arak, Ziarat and Belawinder, while security forces responded with massive operations in the mineral-rich region.
The army said the deadliest attack targeted police in Ziarat, while the second attack targeted an army convoy in Belawinder. Additional operations in Kharan and Dalbandin also resulted in militant casualties.
