The US completed its 11th night of attacks against Iran as a US base in Kuwait was hit in retaliation.
The United States and Iran exchanged fresh claims of military action as tensions continued to rise, while protests disrupted a US Senate hearing involving Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that US forces have completed the 11th consecutive night of airstrikes targeting Iran. According to the statement, the attacks targeted Iranian military operations centers, naval capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and military logistics infrastructure.
CENTCOM also claimed that over the past three months, Iran has carried out more than 30 attacks on merchant ships that transit a key international waterway used for regional and global trade. It described the incidents as “unprovoked attacks” that endangered hundreds of civilian sailors and disrupted freedom of navigation.
Despite the ongoing tensions, CENTCOM said the Strait of Hormuz is open to commercial shipping. Since the beginning of May, U.S. forces have assisted in the safe delivery of nearly 900 commercial vessels carrying about 450 million barrels of crude oil, he added.
Meanwhile, protests repeatedly disrupted US Senate Appropriations Committee hearings attended by Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth. Demonstrators chanted slogans calling for an end to the bombing of children in Iran and Palestine, calling the military operation illegal.
Protesters also accused Hegseth of carrying the “blood of 17 Americans” and said the former military personnel were calling for an immediate end to the war. The hearing was adjourned several times before the committee chairman called the police to remove the protesters.
In addition, Iran’s military claimed it had launched a 21st wave of strikes dubbed “Operation Siqah” in response to US attacks. According to the Iranian military’s public relations office, Iranian forces targeted the US military’s Camp Doha in western Kuwait with a drone.
The attack targeted weapons storage facilities and logistics facilities that support the command center of US ground forces, the statement said. Iran described Camp Doha as one of the most important United States military bases in Kuwait and a key regional support center that hosts US ground, naval and air force personnel and equipment.
