After the alleged rape and murder of missing girl Ayat Noor from Haripur, her body was recovered from a well
Haripur – The body of five-year-old Ayat Noor was recovered from the well of a godown on University Road after a 2-week search that began when the child left home to play and did not return.
The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered before her body was dumped in a well, police said. Three suspects were detained during the search operation. One of them allegedly confessed to sexually abusing the child before the judge.
Two of the accused are currently in jail while the third is in police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the motive or the exact timeline of events. The case has attracted significant local attention amid growing concerns about child safety in the area.
Pakistan has witnessed many tragic incidents of kidnapping, rape and murder of young children. In June, a three-year-old girl in Karachi’s Quaidabad was found dead in a gunpowder bag near her home after going out to play, with autopsy results indicating violent abuse.
Meanwhile, in Sargodha, a seven-year-old girl was murdered after being raped inside a grocery store, her body was later recovered from the top floor. In July, a six-year-old boy in Karachi was murdered after being raped by a neighbor who confessed to the crime and dumped the body off a building.
Earlier this month, an 18-month-old girl was allegedly raped and killed by a young relative in Karachi, while a 10-year-old boy was abducted, assaulted and killed in Faisalabad after going out to buy ice, and a nine-year-old girl was kidnapped, gang-raped and killed elsewhere in Punjab.
In Pakistan alone, 3,606 cases of child abduction and rape were recorded in 2025, indicating the continuing severity of this threat.
