Ex-military officers supervised schools in Punjab.
LAHORE – Punjab is bringing in ex-military officers to strengthen on-the-ground monitoring as the provincial government seeks to make school inspections more regular and effective across the region.
Under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), the government plans to hire 28 Monitoring and Evaluation Officers (MEOs) in 22 districts in the first phase. Of these, 21 posts will be reserved for military personnel, while seven will be open to civilians.
These officers will be hired on a one-year contract with a salary of Rs 60,000 per month along with other perks and facilities as per the rules of the Education Department. They will also be given official motorcycles to facilitate school visits and field inspections. Applications are invited from GCOs and NCOs, with a closing date of 7 September 2026. The government may extend the contracts beyond the initial year, while recruitment is planned in more districts for the second phase.
About 150,000 school teaching interns (STIs) currently working in Punjab’s schools on temporary, daily wage arrangements may also get some relief.
The education department has proposed extending their contracts by another nine months, keeping them in schools till March 2027 and covering the ongoing academic session.
The summary has been sent to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for approval. Upon approval, the Education Department will issue a formal notification.
