According to a statement issued by DGPR, Shoaib-ur-Rehman (PMA-IV) and Ghafran Nasr (PMT-II) lost their lives while performing their assigned patrol duties.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Pakistan Navy, expressed deep grief over the deaths and paid tribute to the sailors who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The statement said that senior officers of the Pakistan Navy also attended the last rites of the martyred personnel and met their families.

In early March, the Pakistan Navy launched Operation Mahfooz Al Bahr to tackle “multi-faceted threats” to the country’s maritime trade and shipping.

The operation was launched amid heightened regional maritime security concerns and the possibility of disruptions in key international sea lanes.

The Navy says that nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade is by sea. The operation is therefore aimed at securing critical sea lanes and ensuring uninterrupted movement of commercial shipping.
