The IT Minister revealed the two-step registration process for Rs 100 petrol relief.
ISLAMABAD – The Pakistani government has opened the doors to a new relief scheme of Rs 100 per litre, and the IT minister has now explained the two simple steps that eligible citizens need to follow to get the discount.
The government has now explained how eligible citizens can register for Rs 100 per liter relief on petrol, who can benefit from the program and what they have to do when they go to buy fuel. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the targeted scheme on Sunday, extending the concession to motorcyclists, rickshaw and rickshaw drivers and owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc.
Federal Minister IT Shaza Fatima said that the registration process has been kept relatively simple and needs to be completed only once. Applicants should use a SIM registered in their own name and send their CNIC number to 9771. They must also provide their vehicle registration number, the province or city where the vehicle is registered and the date of registration.

The information must match the vehicle’s official registration record. If something is missing, applicants will receive a message asking them to correct the problem. Once the registration is successfully completed, there is no need to register again.
Instead, beneficiaries can request their fuel subsidy token by simply sending “TOK” to 9771 whenever they need petrol.
No fees and no additional information.
Princess Fatima has also appealed to people to be careful with their personal information. Citizens should not hand over their CNIC details or other personal data to anyone offering to register them for the scheme. The minister said the government will not ask for additional information from applicants and will not charge any fee for registration or obtaining relief.
Officials will continue to monitor the system and address technical issues or flaws as they come up during implementation, he added.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that the scheme was introduced specifically to help people suffering from the sudden increase in fuel prices. He said that the government has established a transparent system and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all concerned ministries and departments to ensure that eligible citizens can access relief without unnecessary hurdles.
Tarar said that officials involved in the program will be available round the clock to deal with complaints and help the beneficiaries.
Petroleum Minister Malik said the government has understood how quickly a rise in petrol prices can affect ordinary households, especially those who use their vehicles to earn a living.
He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif did not want the latest oil shock to put another burden on the citizens and ordered the authorities to arrange the resources required for the relief package.
Malik said the government had earlier arranged funds for fuel subsidies and the prime minister had once again directed officials to mobilize resources for the latest relief efforts. He also pointed to the pre-scheduled fuel subsidy program, which continued till June 30, saying the government continued to look for ways to protect vulnerable citizens from sudden hikes in fuel prices.
