Mohsin Naqvi once again warns of ‘severe consequences’ for PTI’s attempt to storm Islamabad.
LAHORE – Political tensions continue to rise as the PTI’s planned march to Islamabad comes amid fresh warnings from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who again warned that any attempt to attack the capital, this time, would have dire consequences.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued a stern warning over calls for a march on Islamabad, saying anyone who tries to “storm” the federal capital will face severe consequences as political tensions escalate. In his press conference, Naqvi said that the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is already in front of everyone, army captains, soldiers and policemen have lost their lives in terrorist attacks in recent days.
He said that the deceased were martyrs of Pakistan and urged everyone to attend their funerals. Naqvi criticized the KP government, claiming that no member of the provincial government attended the funerals of the security personnel killed in the recent attacks. Describing the situation as “insensitivity”, Naqvi said political differences may continue, but they should not be taken to that extent.
He said that the whole country is watching the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Naqvi said that there are claims that a group from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will try to march on Islamabad. He issued a direct warning to those planning such a move, saying that whoever tried to attack the capital would face severe consequences. The minister said, “There is still time. Do not enter the last line and do not harm yourself or your people with such behavior.”
He further said that the government will fulfill its responsibility and will not compromise on maintaining law and order.
Naqvi said that if the long march is carried out, the government will fully implement the orders of the Islamabad High Court and use every legal option available. He said that the government will not allow a repeat of a situation in which a long march could bring the country to a standstill for 10 or 20 days. He said that this time there will be a permanent strategy.
The Home Minister claimed that the majority of the PTI leadership was not in favor of the long march. He also questioned the explanation of those planning the protest, saying that they themselves were not clear about what their demands were.
Naqvi said that provocative tactics, threats and political rhetoric will not achieve anything, stressing that the government will act according to the law and not at the behest of anyone.
Talking about PTI founder Imran Khan’s hospital check-up, Naqvi said that the required medical facility had already been provided. He said that Khan also had a night check-up and assured that all possible facilities will be provided for his treatment and medical examination as per the law.
On the issue of new administrative units, Naqvi said that the matter is progressing rapidly. He seemed optimistic that new provinces would eventually be created, but said any new administrative units would be established according to the will of the people.
Schools in these areas of Islamabad will remain closed from Tuesday ahead of the PTI protest.
