King Charles Charity partners with Tariq Halal Meats to support mental health initiatives in Pakistan.
LONDON – The British Asian Trust, a charity founded by King Charles III, has partnered with Tariq Halal Meats to improve mental health awareness and access to care in Pakistan.
The partnership with the UK and Europe’s largest halal meat supplier was announced at an event attended by representatives from both organisations, including Asif Rangoonwala CBE, Vice Chairman of the British Asian Trust, and Tariq Shaikh, founder and chairman of Tariq Halal Meats.
Through the collaboration, Tariq Halal Meets will use its more than 40 branches, digital platforms, and community links to help raise awareness of mental health issues, encourage conversations about help-seeking, and raise funds for British Asian Trust programs in Pakistan.
Mental health remains a major public health challenge in Pakistan, with millions of people affected by mental health conditions while access to treatment is limited due to lack of services, awareness gaps and social stigma.
“Some of the hardest problems are not the ones we can’t see the solution to, but the ones people are still afraid to talk about,” Rangoonwala said.
The partnership will help bring mental health conversations into homes, workplaces and communities, rather than being limited to clinical and professional settings, he said.
“Our goal isn’t just to raise money. It’s to help make help-seeking normal, accessible and shame-free,” she added.
Tariq Sheikh said his family has supported communities in Pakistan for many years through philanthropic efforts, including health care, water projects, food aid and religious initiatives.
She said mental health challenges need more public discussion, as many people struggle without seeking help because of the stigma.
Sheikh said, “Tareq Halal Mates now has a platform that reaches out to families in the UK and beyond. Through this partnership, we want to use that reach to start conversations, raise meaningful funds and help more people get help with dignity.”
Hiten Mehta OBE, chief executive of the British Asian Trust, said the partnership would help remove barriers preventing people from accessing mental health support.
“Millions of people are affected, yet stigma, low awareness and limited access to services prevent many from seeking help,” he said.
Founded in 2007 by King Charles III and a group of British Asian business leaders, the British Asian Trust works on social development projects across South Asia, including initiatives focusing on mental health.
For Tariq Halal Meats, the partnership represents an extension of its community-focused work. The company traces its roots to the Sheikh family’s involvement in the halal meat trade since the 1960s and has become one of the UK’s leading halal meat suppliers.
