Pakistani actress Ayesha Umar has spoken out against the treatment of women and children who are victims of sexual violence, questioning the trend of blaming the victims instead of holding the perpetrators accountable.

In an Instagram story, Omar shared a post that highlighted the need to focus on the actions of the alleged perpetrators instead of interrogating the victims about their clothing, routines or reasons for being out.

The shared post stated that in the reported cases, women, children and even men and dead people were victims of sexual violence. However, women are often questioned about what they were wearing, when they left the house and why they went out.

The post questioned why society doesn’t instead ask why men commit sexual violence and emphasized the need to examine the behavior of perpetrators rather than blame victims.

Omar shared the post at a time when several cases of sexual violence are in the public spotlight, bringing renewed attention to victim protection, access to justice and accountability for alleged perpetrators.
