One person was killed when the structure of Red Line bridge under construction collapsed in Karachi
KARACHI – One person died when a part of the bridge under construction of the Red Line BRT project collapsed near Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan Iqbal area of Karachi.
As soon as the incident was reported, the rescue teams reached the spot and started the operation to remove the debris.
The deceased has been identified as a security guard who was on duty at the scene.
Police were initially informed that a building structure had collapsed. It was later clarified that the collapsed structure was part of an under-construction bridge associated with the Red Line BRT project.
Officials initially feared more people might be trapped under the debris, prompting rescue teams to intensify their search.
Later in a statement, Rescue 1122 confirmed that the rescue operation has been completed. Officials said that no other bodies or injured persons were found under the debris.
The cause of the structure collapse is being determined.
