Negotiating teams have successfully resolved key differences, while preparations are underway for a joint declaration outlining the outcome of the negotiations.

The development comes ahead of heightened political tensions and the opposition’s planned march to Islamabad on October 4. The talks were facilitated by Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq in which representatives of the government, People’s Party and the opposition participated.

The second round focused on the demands placed before the negotiating committees by both sides. Sources said the committees have now drafted the proposed agreement, paving the way for a formal announcement. A briefing on the outcome of the talks is expected soon.

These talks are taking place in the background of intense political differences. The opposition has raised demands for the treatment of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan and other political issues, while the government and its allies have pressed for the cancellation of a planned protest march.

The PPP has also supported political talks and called for an end to the opposition’s proposed march, adding another dimension to the talks. Now that the two sides are working on a joint document, attention has turned to the final wording of the agreement and each side’s commitments.
