Pakistani forces foiled an infiltration attempt on the Pak-Afghan border in Ghulam Khan sector
QUETTA – Pakistani security forces foiled an infiltration attempt by a group of 15 armed militants along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing all involved, according to security sources.
The incident took place in Ghulam Khan sector where the armed group allegedly tried to cross into Pakistani territory from Afghanistan. Security personnel tracked the movement and engaged the group before the militants could advance further inside Pakistan, sources said.
According to the sources, among those who tried to cross the border are the members of the Wazir group, apart from the alleged operatives associated with Commander Mazdgari Marwat. The alleged clash comes amid growing security concerns and rising tensions along Pakistan’s western border.
Pakistani officials have repeatedly expressed concern over militant groups allegedly operating from Afghan soil and carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. Islamabad has called on the Afghan authorities to take concrete steps against such organizations and ensure that Afghan soil is not used for attacks against Pakistan.
Following the recent clashes, security forces have maintained a tight vigil in the border areas. Authorities are continuing surveillance operations to detect illegal crossings or further infiltration attempts by militants.
The reported infiltration comes at a time when Pakistan has issued increasingly stark warnings about the threat of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil. Spokesman of the Pakistan Army Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that Pakistan reserves the right to defend its territory and citizens against threats coming from across the western border.
He said that Islamabad will determine when, where and how it responds to threats against Pakistan. He accused Afghan Taliban officials of allowing militant outfits to operate from Afghan soil and questioned Pakistan’s efforts to prevent attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Chaudhry also alleged coordination between several militant outfits, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qaeda, the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). He cited an alleged meeting in Kandahar on August 26 as an example of cooperation between militant elements.
