3 employees of LESCO suspended on complaint of Khawaja Asif about 80 thousand rupees transformer

LAHORE – Three employees of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), including two linemen and a line superintendent, have been suspended following a complaint on social media by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif regarding alleged irregularities in the replacement of village transformers.

According to Phulnagar Division Executive Engineer (XEN), Line Superintendent Mohammad Hussain, Lineman Shaukat and Lineman Falk Sher were suspended pending an inquiry into the matter.

XEN reported that after the 200 KW transformer burned, LESCO crews were trying to install a 100 KW replacement transformer. However, villagers and a coordinator associated with Khawaja Asif allegedly stopped the installation process.

He further said that he himself visited Chak 27 villages and found no evidence that any money was paid to LESCO employees.

The development follows a social media post by Khawaja Asif, who claimed that a transformer in his employer’s village was replaced after villagers paid Rs 80,000, alleging that the payment was made without an official receipt.

Meanwhile, LESCO sources say the amount was allegedly collected by a private individual named Shabbir, who has no connection with the power utility.

According to sources, a high-level investigation is underway following the minister’s complaint. The utility’s director of surveillance and inspection has launched an inquiry into the matter, on the instructions of Lesco’s chief executive.
