PMD has issued a warning of dust storm, heavy rain and hail across Pakistan from June 11.
ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast dust storm, wind and thundershowers over the upper and central regions of the country from June 11 to 13, warning of isolated heavy rain and hailstorm in some areas.
In its advisory issued on Wednesday, the Met Office said a Western Disturbance is expected to enter the upper reaches of the country on June 11 and persist till June 13.
It added that moist currents from the Arabian Sea are likely to affect the central and northern regions as well, further intensifying the weather activity.
According to PMD, there is a possibility of dusty winds, strong winds and intermittent rain in many districts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Punjab.
The affected areas include Murree, Guliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara and others.
Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Leh, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Kot Addu may also be affected.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, dusty winds and thundershowers are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Bitgram, Bunir, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Peshawar, Hanzala, Orakzai.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also likely to experience strong winds and thundershowers, Neelam Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalkot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimbar, Mirpur, Diamar, Astor, Garhi, Garhi, Garhi, hail and hail are also likely. and sugar.
In Balochistan, dusty winds and thundershowers are expected in northeastern districts including Zhob, Shirani, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Barkhan and Dera Bugti.
In Sindh, dusty winds are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur and Shaheed Benazirabad.
The PMD warned that strong winds, hailstorms and lightning could damage vulnerable structures such as solar panels, electricity poles and billboards.
It further warned that heavy rains may cause urban flooding and flash floods in low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Faisalabad, while landslides are also likely in vulnerable hilly areas of upper KP, GB and Kashmir.
The meteorological department advised farmers to take precautionary measures to protect crops and urged tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary movement during the forecast period. He also asked the authorities concerned to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid any untoward situation.
