Over 100 people admitted to hospital after eating contaminated custard at Hyderabad wedding
HYDERABAD – More than 100 people were hospitalized after eating suspected contaminated custard at a wedding in Hyderabad’s Qasimabad area, according to local reports.
The incident affected men, women, children and elderly guests who started having severe stomach pain and vomiting immediately after eating the sweet. All the affected persons were immediately shifted to Qasimabad Taluk Hospital for medical assistance.
In view of the large number of patients, the hospital administration imposed an emergency while the medical staff continued to treat and monitor.
The victims said that their condition worsened soon after eating the custard served at the event.
Preliminary findings from local authorities suggest that custard was the likely cause of the food poisoning incident.
Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abedin Memon said that initial reports indicated sweets as the source of the outbreak.
After the incident, the authorities took notice and directed the Sindh Food Authority to inspect the food preparation facility involved in the event. Health officials confirmed that all patients are in stable condition but are under observation.
Investigations are ongoing to determine responsibility and prevent future incidents, while hospital staff continue to closely monitor those affected.
