QUETTA – A Pakistani woman gave birth to three baby girls and two boys during a rare delivery at a private hospital in Quetta. As a precaution, doctors kept the five newborns in intensive care for 10 days.

Doctors who oversaw the delivery said all five babies are currently in special neonatal care, where they will be under close medical supervision for the next 10 days as a precaution. Medical experts note that monitoring is important to ensure that babies continue to develop safely in their first days of life.

Multiple births of this scale are unusual but not unprecedented. Similar cases have come to light in recent years in Pakistan.

Last year, a woman from Baldia Town Karachi gave birth to five children after 29 weeks of pregnancy. According to doctors, all the five infants were born prematurely and needed special medical attention. Another notable case occurred in Bannu, where a woman gave birth to five children, including three boys and two girls.

Peshawar last year saw a rare back-to-back birth, with a woman welcoming three girls and two boys in a single delivery. Although multiple births occur every year in Pakistan and around the world, successful delivery of five babies at the same time is exceptionally rare and requires close medical monitoring of both mother and newborn, medical experts say.
