Budget 2026-27: Tax relief sought for salaried class earning up to Rs 125,000 in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Budget 2026-27 is around the corner and the government is planning relief for the people as economic pressure mounts amid falling inflation and unaffordable prices.

He said that the government has collected about Rs. 605 billion in income tax from the middle class salaried class, arguing that this class is being “severely squeezed” under the current economic framework.

He highlighted that the burden on households is much higher than income tax, pointing to rising costs of children’s education, electricity and gas bills, expensive petrol, various levies, and taxes on essential goods. According to him, these combined pressures have made it difficult for salaried families across the country to make ends meet.

The JI chief warned that the current tax structure was causing financial stress among professionals and skilled workers, adding that many were being forced to leave the country due to what he described as an “unsustainable” economic environment.

Hafiz Naeemur Rahman presented a set of demands to ease the pressure on the salaried class, including complete abolition of income tax on monthly salaries up to Rs 2,000. 125,000, reducing the income tax rate by at least 50% for those earning above this limit and abolishing the maximum income tax rate from 35% to 15%.

He asserted that these measures are necessary to provide relief to the middle class, which currently bears a disproportionate share of the country’s tax burden.

The statement is expected to add momentum to the ongoing debate over taxes and relief measures ahead of the upcoming budget debate, as pressure mounts on policymakers to deal with inflation and falling purchasing power.
