According to NADRA spokesperson, citizens will be able to renew and reprint their e-passport at NADRA centers in Karachi and other cities across the country.

However, issuance of new e-passports, amendments and issuance of new machine-readable passports will continue to be done exclusively through passport offices.

Passport counters in NADRA offices will be phased out and staff posted there will be recalled. The e-passport facility at NADRA centers will be provided under an agreement between the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports and NADRA.

The modern e-passport will have an electronic chip storing the holder’s biometric and personal data and will comply with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The passport will have NFC chip, laser engraving, infrared and ultraviolet security features, making identity verification at airports more secure and efficient.
