Eid Alert: Pakistan Air Force Flags Offal Disposal Near Airbases As Major Aviation Hazard

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has issued a public awareness message ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, urging citizens against improper disposal of sacrificial animal waste, warning that it could pose serious risks to aircraft operations.

A video message shared by the Air Force said that the dumping of animal remains and waste in the open can create hazardous conditions in populated areas and especially near air bases. It states that such practices attract large numbers of kites, crows and other birds that feed on the open waste.

Aggregation of birds in and around airbases poses safety concerns for flight operations. The presence of birds near runways can interfere with critical phases of flight, particularly takeoff and landing, when aircraft are most vulnerable. PAF warned that bird strikes, where birds collide with an aircraft, can result in severe damage to engines and other critical systems.

In severe cases, such incidents may threaten the integrity of the aircraft and human lives, making preventive measures necessary.

A PAF spokesperson said that the Air Force along with other concerned agencies are urging the public to ensure proper disposal of animal remains during Eid. Citizens are advised to keep waste in sealed garbage bags and dispose of it only in designated areas as per government guidelines.

Animal remains should be buried deep enough to not attract birds and pose potential safety or environmental hazards, the spokesman added.

Punjab has approved a fine of Rs 50,000 for throwing animals in the streets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
