Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Iran to attend the last rites of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
TEHRAN – Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday to attend the funeral prayers of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes earlier this year.
Before the funeral, Field Marshal Asim Munir was received by Iran’s top officials. He is expected to attend the last rites on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also left for Iran along with important members of the federal cabinet to participate in the ceremony. Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi are also among the Pakistani dignitaries attending the funeral.
Preparations for the funeral prayer are underway, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s body has been moved to Imam Khomeini Hussainiya for last rites.
According to the information provided, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was assassinated on February 28, 2026 in Tehran following an attack that reportedly targeted his compound. Many other important personalities also lost their lives in this incident.
