Field Marshal Asim Munir has ‘full respect’ for PM Shehbaz, Trump praises Pakistan’s civil-military coordination
WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has praised Pakistan’s leadership, calling Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif outstanding figures and acknowledging Pakistan’s role in efforts to reach a deal with Iran.
While giving an interview to a US-based website, Trump said that Field Marshal Asim Munir has great respect for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and described the relationship between the two leaders as a positive example of cooperation.
“In Pakistan, you have a field marshal, who is very good. And you have a prime minister, and he is just very good. The military man has complete respect for the prime minister,” he said in an interview.
“It’s a beautiful thing to see,” he added.
Trump credited Pakistan with providing significant support in Iran talks. According to the US President, Pakistan’s leadership has a deep understanding of Iran’s leadership and its people, which proved valuable during diplomatic efforts.
Speaking at a separate event, Trump also said that Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States in September. He said that China played an important role in matters related to Iran and highlighted Beijing’s influence in the region.
The US president said China buys half of Iran’s oil exports for its consumption. He added that the US maintains strong ties with Israel and plans to visit China again later this year.
Trump further revealed that he had asked China not to intervene in the Iran dispute and said that Beijing agreed to the request.
Speaking on other international issues, Trump said that 34,000 people have died as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war. He further said that efforts are on to achieve ceasefire and end the conflict.
