Jaishankar walked out of the UN presser after facing tough questions on Indian-sponsored terrorism
New York – A tense situation reportedly erupted at the United Nations headquarters when a Pakistani journalist confronted Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar directly with various questions regarding alleged Indian state-sponsored terrorism in Pakistan.
The Pakistani journal questioned whether the Indian government was systematically sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan and asked what New Delhi had to say about the deaths of thousands of Pakistani citizens allegedly linked to Indian state terrorism.
The journalist also referred to evidence that Pakistan says it has presented to the United Nations and the international community. The questions reportedly made Jaishankar uncomfortable, with the Indian foreign minister reportedly refraining from giving detailed answers before leaving the venue.
Jaishankar was seen banging his hand on the table before walking away as the journalist continued to field questions.
The Pakistani journalist specifically asked whether India was sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistan and highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding allegations that Indian state institutions were involved in destabilizing the country. He also questioned India on Pakistan’s description of the killing of thousands of innocent civilians through alleged state-sponsored terrorism.
Pakistan has repeatedly said that it has presented evidence of Indian interference before international forums.
Pakistan has for years accused the Modi-led government of using its intelligence agencies to create instability in various parts of the country.
In 2020 and 2021, Pakistan presented dossiers to the United Nations and the international community that it described as evidence of Indian support for banned organizations. The materials cited in the Pakistani claims include audio calls, bank transactions and other evidence, which Pakistan says is proof of India’s financial and logistical support to militant groups.
A heated exchange reportedly turned tense at the UN headquarters when a Pakistani journalist pressed the Indian foreign minister for answers.
Rather than respond to the allegations in detail, Jaishankar reportedly chose to leave the venue, ending the exchange abruptly. Since the incident has been portrayed as a major diplomatic confrontation, Pakistan’s allegations of Indian involvement in terrorism are once again in the international limelight.
The incident also comes amid longstanding Pakistani allegations against Indian intelligence agencies. In recent years, several Western countries have reported cases of alleged extrajudicial killing schemes attributed to Indian intelligence agencies.
Pakistan has repeatedly used such cases to support its claims that India operates beyond its borders through alleged intelligence networks.
Hence, the latest confrontation at the United Nations has intensified the debate over Pakistan’s allegations of Indian state-sponsored terrorism and India’s continued denial of these allegations.
