Lahore will be cool with rain this weekend as the Meteorological Department has warned of thunder and hailstorm.
LAHORE – After days of scorching heat, Lahore witnessed a dramatic change in weather as rain and strong winds swept across the city, bringing much relief to residents. However, meteorologists have warned that the unsettled weather could turn severe in the coming days, with thundershowers, hail and gusty winds expected in several districts of Lahore and Punjab.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast thundershowers and isolated heavy rains with gusty winds from Thursday night into the weekend. Officials warned that hail and strong winds could damage vulnerable infrastructure, including solar panels, power poles and roadside billboards.

A strong westerly wave is currently affecting the upper and central parts of the country. At the same time, moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea are moving into the central and southern regions, creating favorable conditions for widespread cyclonic activity. A seasonal low pressure area remains active over West Balochistan and adjoining areas, further intensifying the severity of the weather.
Despite the expected rains, temperatures are forecast to remain unusually high. Lahore is likely to record a maximum temperature between 39°C and 41°C on Friday while the mercury may touch 40°C to 42°C on Saturday. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius during the last 24 hours, while the humidity in Syria was 33 percent.
The PMD has forecast rain, wind and thundershowers in several districts including Rawalpindi, Murree, Guliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Tobahkana, Nanakpatan, Singhpatan. Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Leh, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, DG Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Kot Addu.
While rain has brought relief from the cold conditions, meteorologists have warned that thunderstorms could create dangerous conditions. Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel during severe weather, store outdoor items and heed government advisories.
Pakistan is braced for rain, storm and strong winds from June 16 to 20.
