New driving license rules come into effect with 24-hour test deadline, 7-day payment rule
LAHORE – New driving license rules came into effect today, introducing strict deadlines for applicants. Under the revised procedure, candidates will have to complete their road test within 24 hours of passing the e-sign test and pay the PSID fee within seven days to avoid repeating the process.
The traffic police devised a strict, deadline-based system for driving license applicants. The new rules mean that candidates will not only have to keep an eye on whether they pass their tests, but also on the clock. And missing one of the deadlines can send the applicant back to the beginning of the vetting process.
The licensing process now combines several steps, including e-sign test, road test, PSID generation and fee payment. Each stage has to be completed within the required time. The most important deadline comes right after the e-sign test.
Once a candidate clears the e-sign test, he will have only 24 hours to take the practical road test. This is probably the biggest point that applicants need to remember. If the road test is not taken within these 24 hours, the e-sign results will be considered expired.
This means that the candidate will not be able to just come back later and continue from where they left off. They may have to go through a retesting process, including retaking the E-Sign test. The traffic authorities have been instructed to strictly follow this deadline.
There is another important catch. Even if a candidate manages to clear both the E-Sign and the Road Test within the required period, there is one more step that cannot be overlooked: the PSID. The test results and the PSID process are linked through the DLIMS system, and candidates must ensure that the PSID is generated as required.
If the PSID is not generated within the prescribed process, the test results may be voided, meaning the candidate may have to retake the E-Sign and road test.
7 day deadline
After the PSID is generated, the candidate gets seven days to pay the fee. Miss this deadline, and the PSID may expire.
And if the PSID expires, the licensing process is canceled and the candidate may have to start the relevant steps all over againβincluding the e-sign and road test. Simply put, passing the exam is no longer the bottom line. You also need to complete the digital paperwork and payment process on time.
Traffic officials say the aim is to make the licensing process more transparent, digitally integrated and properly documented. Instead of treating test, application and payment as separate steps, the new system connects them through a digital licensing process.
Officials have also been directed to ensure that there is no unnecessary delay and that candidates’ tests, results and PSIDs are processed as per the prescribed procedure.
Under the new arrangement, the same site where the candidate takes the road test will submit the regular driving license application to the relevant system. DIG Traffic has also issued instructions to traffic chiefs of all districts to ensure uniform implementation of the new procedure.
New deadlines are being added to the already established licensing system. Current SOPs include verification of applicant’s original CNIC and through biometric verification, monitoring of e-sign test, video recording of road test, and recording of results in DLIMS.
If you are applying for a driving license under the new system, remember these two numbers: 24 hours: After passing the e-sign test, the road test must be completed within this period. 7 days: Once the PSID is generated, the fee must be paid within seven days.
