‘No mercy’ for militants who killed Punjabi laborers in Balochistan’s Washik

QUETTA – Balochistan witnessed another gruesome act of violence as unidentified gunmen stormed shops and shot dead five laborers from Punjab in Mashkeel area of ​​Washik district of Balochistan near the Pak-Iran border.

The motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire indiscriminately at the shops where the victims were working before fleeing the scene. The labourers, who worked as barbers, had no chance to escape the attack. The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Hasan, Abdul Qadir, Mohsin and Bilal, who belong to Sialkot, while according to the authorities, all the five deceased belong to different areas of Punjab.

The bodies are being shifted to native areas after completion of legal proceedings.

Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to find those responsible. The police have also started an investigation to determine the motive behind the murder and identify the culprits.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the massacre and called it a barbaric act of terrorism. Expressing deep grief over the loss of innocent lives, he expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and termed the targeting of innocent laborers as the most cruel and cowardly crime.

The government called out Fitna-ul-Hindustan for the cowardly attack and said that those responsible for crimes against innocent civilians deserve no leniency, adding that such attacks are aimed at spreading fear and promoting a destructive agenda. He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the government to eradicate terrorism and ensure the safety of every citizen.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti also condemned the killings and said that the victims were not only Punjabi workers but Pakistani citizens whose sacrifice represents a loss for the entire nation. He said that this attack is not on a specific province or ethnic community, but on the unity of Pakistan, the constitution and the writ of the state.

He said that those behind the attack wanted to spread terrorism, hatred and instability by targeting innocent citizens. He vowed that the perpetrators as well as their facilitators will be brought to justice and said that action against anti-state elements will be intensified until the state is fully restored.
