Noreen Niazi’s statement is not party policy, Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar
Rawalpindi – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has clarified that the controversial statement of party founder’s sister Noreen Niazi does not represent party policy but is her personal opinion.
Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gauhar said that according to his knowledge Noreen Niazi’s statement is about three months old and reflects his personal views rather than the party’s stand. He questioned why this statement was coming up again after such a long time and said that controversial issues should not be brought to the mainstream media.
He said that Pakistan’s success in the “battle of truth” was the blessing of Allah, adding that the whole world saw Pakistan’s success and every Pakistani was proud of it. He said that Pakistan’s defense is strong and no enemy can defeat the country.
Barrister Gauhar said that divisions in the country have already deepened, stressing that past problems should not be revived and efforts should be focused on improving the situation. He stressed that comments on the sacrifices and martyrs of the armed forces should be avoided, noting that sometimes words can be spoken in the heat of the moment, but certain matters should not be touched.
He opposed issuing a notice or harassing Noreen Niazi, saying that a statement does not weaken Pakistan’s defence. Referring to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks, he said that the matter should be closed now as the explanation has already been given.
On terrorism, Barrister Gauhar said the party’s stand is clear: terrorism is a threat to the country and wherever terrorists exist, they must be tackled using all available resources, as the eradication of terrorism is essential for the country’s development and stability.
He further said that the elections of Azad Kashmir have been rescheduled and divided into three phases. Although there was opinion within the party to review the boycott decision, due to lack of consensus, the boycott remains in place for now, although it may be reconsidered if conditions improve.
Regarding the standing committees and the judicial commission, he said that the boycott of the party is continuing.
Regarding the negotiations, he said that the talks have not yet formally started and have only reached the offer stage. He hoped that the political issues would be resolved through a lasting political solution so that the country could move forward from the current situation.
Concluding his remarks, Barrister Gauhar said that PTI founder’s sisters are not involved in politics and do not hold any position in the party. Therefore, his personal statements should not be considered as the party’s position. Taking such statements out of context creates unnecessary controversy, it would be better to close the matter and move on, he added.
