Pakistan busts India-linked bot network spreading anti-state content: Tarar
ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said that it is important to inform the nation about the important facts regarding the India-linked digital disinformation network targeting Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference, Tarar said that the security agencies had arrested a person some time ago who was providing digital marketing services. He claimed that these services are linked to India and payments are being made across the border for promoting anti-Pakistan content on social media.
He said the investigators had obtained important information from the suspect, alleging that a vast network of bot farms was being used to spread disinformation against Pakistan, its territorial integrity, government, armed forces, army chief and other state institutions.
According to the minister, the arrested person revealed during investigation that most of the material found with him was related to the Joint Action Committee in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Tarar reiterated the government’s long-standing position that the Joint Action Committee was trying to undermine the Kashmir cause and undermine Kashmir’s ties with Pakistan. He claimed that the group had no real connection with the interests of the Kashmiri people and challenged its members to contest elections if they were sincere in their cause.
He further alleged that the group resorted to violent protests in which Kashmiri police personnel were killed, promoted violence and tried to disrupt law and order.
The information minister claimed that the government had “irrefutable evidence” linking these elements to India. He alleged that the movement was driven by weapons and violence rather than the interests of Kashmir or its people and was aimed at harming Kashmiris and weakening their ties with Pakistan.
Tarr said that the Kashmiri people have rejected the politics of violence and have proved that Pakistan-Kashmir relations can neither be broken nor weakened.
He also alleged that the anti-state campaign was carried out through digital marketing on social media, funded by India. According to Tarar, those involved received financial support described as anti-Pakistan to run a hateful disinformation campaign against Pakistan, its armed forces and the country’s leadership.
The minister claimed there was evidence of Indian funding of what he termed “prohibitive” Joint Action Committee activities. He further alleged that various social media platforms were used to spread anti-Pakistan propaganda and artificial intelligence was used to circulate old videos which were presented as current events in Kashmir.
Tarar said that the investigation of the arrested person is going on and added that it is the responsibility of the government to correct the wrong information.
He concluded by saying that the world has recognized Pakistan’s achievements against India not only on the military front but also in diplomacy. He further said that Pakistan is committed to peace and credits Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for raising the country’s international standing through their efforts.
