Pakistan has reduced the price of petrol by Rs 22 per litre

ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 22 per litre, bringing major relief to inflation-affected consumers.

After Rs 22 reduction, the new rate of petrol will be Rs 381 78 paise and diesel will be sold at Rs 380 78 paise per litre.

The announcement was made by the Prime Minister’s Office, which confirmed that the revised prices will come into effect immediately as part of the government’s latest petroleum price adjustment.

According to an official statement, the decision comes amid fluctuating global oil prices and efforts to pass on the benefits of the fall in international crude oil prices to the public. The move is expected to reduce transport costs and provide some relief to domestic budget and inflationary pressures in the country.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that providing relief to the people is his top priority, adding that the government had announced a similar cut last week.

The statement added that even in difficult economic conditions, the government continued to provide relief to consumers, including subsidies for public transport, goods transport, motorcyclists and rickshaw users.

It also highlighted that Pakistan ensured fuel availability at a time when other countries saw queues, crediting timely government decisions to maintain supplies.

The press release added that during the global oil crisis, despite the rise in international prices, the government prevented a sharp increase in domestic fuel prices by providing a subsidy of more than Rs 130 per litre, bringing direct relief to the public.
