PDMA issued high alert after forecasting monsoon rains in most districts of Punjab.
LAHORE – The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted heavy monsoon rains in most districts of the province during the next 24 hours and has directed all concerned departments to be on high alert.
According to PDMA spokesperson, rain is likely in Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Okara, Okara, Sargodha, Sargodha, Sargodha. Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan. Multan, Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Leh and Bhakkar.
Director General of PDMA said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and all relevant departments have been instructed to be vigilant. The Provincial Control Room and District Emergency Operation Centers are also functioning round the clock.
The authority has directed Rescue 1122, WASA and other emergency services to be fully prepared with personnel and machinery, while ensuring immediate drainage of rainwater from low-lying areas and water-logging hotspots.
The PDMA also advised residents to take precautions to stay away from electric poles, hanging wires, mud houses and dilapidated buildings. Parents have been requested not to let children near rain water. In case of emergency, citizens have been asked to contact PDMA helpline 1129.
Meanwhile, the authority reported rain in several areas of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Narowal received the highest rainfall of 51 mm.
Rawalpindi, Gwalmandi recorded 36 mm, New Katarian 35 mm, Shamsabad 23 mm, Kachhari 21 mm and Pirwadhai 19 mm.
Elsewhere, Gujarat recorded 28 mm, Sialkot 24 mm, Murree and Attock 19 mm, Chakwal 4 mm, Lahore 3 mm and Mandi Bahauddin 2 mm.
The PDMA has urged the public to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel until the weather improves.
