Prime Minister Shahbaz and Erdoğan hold fresh high-level talks focusing on investment, trade
ISTANBUL – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday welcomed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif at the historic Vahtitan Palace for high-level talks aimed at charting the next phase of Pak-Turkey strategic cooperation.
The visit began with an official reception at the presidential residence, before the two leaders met behind closed doors to discuss bilateral ties, regional developments and ways to expand cooperation in key areas.
The engagement was attended by senior Turkish officials, including Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director Burhanitin Duran, and Presidential Chief Advisor Akif Çağatay Kılıç.
After the one-on-one talks, President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Shahbaz will preside over delegation-level talks involving senior officials from both countries. The agenda included strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, defence, economic cooperation and other areas of common interest. The two leaders are expected to jointly announce the results of the talks to the media later in the day and reiterate their commitment to deepening the long-standing partnership between Islamabad and Ankara.
The Istanbul meeting comes at a time when Pakistan and Turkey are trying to transform their close political ties into broader strategic and economic cooperation, with both sides pursuing closer ties on regional issues and expanding bilateral cooperation.
Turkey’s leading business groups have expressed confidence in Pakistan’s economic outlook and signaled interest in boosting investment during Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s meetings with top Turkish business leaders in Istanbul.
The talks focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties, attracting investments in strategic sectors and promoting long-term trade partnerships. The Prime Minister emphasized that the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Turkey should be transformed into deeper trade and investment cooperation.
