Relief for Momina Iqbal as NCCIA reopens harassment probe against Saqib Chadhar.
ISLAMABAD – The case of actress Momina Iqbal and PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhadar has taken another twist as digital evidence has forced the NCCIA to reopen its investigation, giving the actress a possible reprieve.
The agency summoned both Momina and Chadhar to its Lahore office on Friday, September 4, as investigators prepare to re-examine the case from a new angle.
The accused sought a retrial, arguing that new defense evidence cast a new light on the charges. The NCCIA has now constituted a Special Investigation Team, headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Director, to conduct fresh investigations.
The team will examine the newly presented digital evidence with material collected during previous investigations. A month has been given to complete the inquiry and submit its findings to the Director General. The NCCIA will decide whether further legal action is required after reviewing the team’s report.
The latest developments represent a significant shift from the agency’s previous position. During a hearing in a sessions court in Lahore on July 28, a former NCCIA investigating officer told the court that Chadhar was found guilty during the investigation.
But the case took a turn when newly appointed investigating officer Hasan Sajjad Naqvi appeared in court on September 3. He informed the judge that the investigation had taken a different direction and there was no need to arrest Chadhar at the present stage.
Momina has earlier accused the other party of harassment, pressure and alleged abuse of power, while also claiming that the dispute affected her family and personal life. They have demanded transparent investigation and accountability of the allegations of physical abuse.
Despite the pressure, Momina has said that she will continue to pursue the matter through legal means and will not let the controversy harm her career or reputation.
