Showbiz stars demand accountability after 14 newborns die in Pimms fire

ISLAMABAD – The tragic death of 14 newborn babies in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad has left the country in mourning.

Pakistani showbiz personalities have also expressed grief and anger over the incident and demanded action against those responsible.

Actor Usman Mukhtar’s wife Zanira Inam expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and questioned whether those allegedly responsible for negligence will ever be held accountable or will this tragedy fade from public memory after a few days.

Senior actor Muhammad Ahmed also expressed grief over the incident and demanded a full investigation. He said that those responsible for the tragedy should be identified and held accountable.

TV host Madiha Naqvi expressed her solidarity with the affected mothers and families and prayed for strength to bear the irreparable loss.

Other reactions to the tragedy included strong criticism of the country’s system, demanding accountability. Many have questioned why such tragedies are condemned and mourned before being forgotten until the next incident.

The fire broke out in the early morning on Wednesday in the nursery on the third floor of the Mother and Child Health Ward at Pims, where the newborns were being treated.

According to the authorities, 14 infants died in the incident while one child was saved.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an immediate investigation into the incident and directed to identify the responsible.
