The Pakistani delegation reached Switzerland near the signing of the US-Iran peace agreement.
SWITZERLAND – Pakistan’s technical delegation, led by Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch, arrived in Switzerland ahead of the historic agreement between the US and Iran.
The flight is expected tomorrow in line with Islamabad’s increased role in high-level diplomatic efforts by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and senior Pakistani officials.
Intense negotiations between Washington and Tehran are reportedly going on behind closed doors to speed up the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Originally scheduled for Friday, sources say negotiators are exploring the possibility of moving the signing ceremony to Wednesday to secure the earliest possible reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
According to reports, the deal could be signed electronically if negotiators finalize the details ahead of schedule. The U.S. is also considering publishing the full text of the agreement, possibly revealing for the first time the exact commitments made by both sides after weeks of sensitive negotiations.
This urgency stems from the global importance of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors. Sources say both Washington and Tehran have largely agreed on steps to reopen the waterway, although officials insist no final decision has yet been announced.
Adding to the intrigue, conflicting accounts have emerged as to whether the agreement has been signed. A senior US administration official reportedly claimed that President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Ghalibaf had electronically ratified the deal on Sunday. However, a diplomat from one of the mediating countries quickly challenged the claim, saying there had been no formal signing.
Despite the uncertainty, all eyes are now on the planned meeting between Vice President J.D. Vance and Speaker Ghaliboff in Switzerland on Friday. The meeting is expected to mark the next phase of US-Iran engagement and could open discussions on one of the region’s most contentious issues: Iran’s nuclear program.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump issued a stark warning while speaking on the sidelines of the G7 summit, insisting that the talks remain incomplete. Making it clear that military pressure remains on the table, Trump announced that Washington could return to military action if a final deal does not meet US expectations.
With Pakistan’s top leadership preparing to arrive, US-Iranian diplomacy entering a decisive phase, and the future of the Strait of Hormuz hanging in the balance, Switzerland has suddenly become the focus of the year’s most consequential geopolitical developments.
Under the deal with the US, Iran could receive $300 billion in private investment.
