The price of petrol in Pakistan has increased for the fourth day in a row and has reached close to 371 rupees.
ISLAMABAD – After the government announced yet another hike effective September 11, the price of petrol now touches Rs 371 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has touched Rs 400.
As part of the latest adjustment in petroleum prices, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has increased the ex-depot price of petrol by Rs 3.05 per liter and diesel by Rs 5.37 per litre. Petrol price is now Rs 370.80 per litre, which was Rs 367.75 earlier. High speed diesel has increased from Rs 392.67 to Rs 398.04 per litre.
For petrol consumers, the real shock is not just where the price stands today, but how quickly it got there. On September 7, the price of a liter of petrol was Rs 345.87. By September 10, the price reached Rs 367.75. Now from September 11, motorists will pay Rs 370.80.
This is an amazing increase of Rs 21.88 in just three days. Has decided not to leave diesel behind.
On September 7, it was priced at Rs 378.05 per litre, which rose to Rs 392.67 and has now reached Rs 398.04. Overall, diesel has become expensive by Rs 14.62 per liter in the same three-day period.
Of course, the price displayed at the pump isn’t just about the price of fuel. A large part comes from taxes, levies and margins – because apparently, one source of financial pain wasn’t enough.
According to the data provided, 131.60 rupees are being collected from each liter of petrol through these charges. For high-speed diesel, the relevant figure is Rs 122.55 per liter at its base cost. So while international oil prices are playing a role, domestic charges are ensuring that the final bill remains suitably uncomfortable.
The latest hike comes as international crude oil prices remain above $105 a barrel, adding another layer of pressure on Pakistan’s petroleum prices. And global markets have plenty of reasons to be nervous.
The ‘real price’ of petrol is Rs 234, but Pakistanis are paying Rs 367 per litre.
