The Prime Minister ordered tax refund clearance till June 15.
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to dispose of all pending tax refund cases by June 15 and ordered to shift the head office of Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) to Karachi for the convenience of the business community.
The Prime Minister issued these instructions during a meeting with a high-level delegation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry from across the country, in which the upcoming federal budget, industrial growth, expansion of exports and the overall economic situation were discussed.
He said that the continuous efforts and effective policies of the government have helped stabilize the national economy, adding that the measures will accelerate the pace of economic growth.
The Prime Minister assured the business leaders that more facilities will be provided in the upcoming budget to promote industrial production and business activities. He emphasized that export-led growth is the government’s top priority.
He welcomed the banks’ decision to maintain the export refinance scheme rate at 4.5 per cent till June 2027 despite the recent increase in the policy rate, saying it would benefit exporters.
In addition, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the establishment of a passport office in Gujarat on the request of overseas Pakistanis and businessmen.
During the meeting, he stressed the importance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the national economic agenda and encouraged local investors to form joint ventures to promote domestic electric vehicle production.
The trade delegation appreciated the diplomatic efforts of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir along with the government’s economic initiatives to reduce regional tensions in the Gulf.
The representatives of the business community expressed their full support for the government policies and pledged their support for economic development and increasing employment opportunities.
He also welcomed initiatives like “Apna Ghar Programme”, reforms in Export Development Fund, privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), digitization of FBR, and introduction of e-invoicing.
The meeting was attended by the presidents and senior representatives of Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Quetta, Gujrat and Border Chambers and officials including State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmed and Chairman FBR.
