The requirement of uniform for primary school students was abolished.
QUETTA – In a high-level meeting presided over by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, key reform measures were approved to improve education, increase literacy rate and upgrade educational facilities across the province.
The meeting decided to abolish the requirement of school uniform at the primary level and allow boys and girls to study together in the same school.
In this regard, the proposed policy to declare primary schools “gender-free” will be presented in the next cabinet meeting.
It was agreed to introduce a double shift system in 900 schools across the province to increase the literacy level and to increase the long-pending salaries of teachers working under the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD).
Secretary School Education told the meeting that additional classrooms will be constructed in 3,000 single-room schools within the next year. It was also decided to introduce standardized reading and writing materials in government schools to ensure uniform educational standards.
Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti announced the end of the traditional “Tao culture” in all functioning government schools, directing that every school be provided with desks so that no child is forced to sit on the floor during classes. He asserted that it is unacceptable for children in the province to be educated on mats while the world has moved on.
He warned that if students were found sitting on the floor after the implementation deadline, strict action would be taken against the officials responsible. The chief minister also said that he would make surprise visits to remote schools to personally assess the educational conditions, including helicopter travel if required.
The meeting also agreed on a broader reform agenda for the upcoming budget, focusing on improving education, health and law and order. The Chief Minister emphasized that it is important to instill confidence and dignity in children and assured that the government will take all necessary steps to achieve this goal.
