The water level in Punjab’s rivers may rise till July 24 as the PDMA has issued a flood alert.

LAHORE – The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has said that water flow is normal in most rivers across the province, while low-level flooding continues in Kalabagh on the Indus River and Khanki on the Chenab River.

Kalabagh water inflow recorded 269000 cusecs, outflow 262000 cusecs. At Khanki on river Chenab, inflow was recorded at 113,000 cusecs while outflow was 106,000 cusecs.

The authority said that the river level is within normal limits at several monitoring points on Chenab river including Marala, Kadirabad, Trimum and Panjand. Normal flows were also reported at Jasar, Shahdara, Sidhnai and Baloki on the Ravi River, as well as Ganda Singhwala, Sulaimanki and Head Islam on the Sutlej River. The water level in Tarbela, Chashma and Taunsa on the Indus River along with the mountain streams of Dera Ghazi Khan is also normal at this time.

The PDMA has warned that the water level in the river in Punjab may rise till July 24. A flood alert has been issued for the hilly areas of Dera Ghazi Khan, while officials have also warned of possible urban flooding in Lahore, Bahawalnagar and Rawalpindi divisions.

PDMA Director General Omar Abbas said that flood relief camps have been established in the affected areas. He urged citizens to be cautious, follow safety guidelines and avoid recreational activities near rivers, canals and streams due to the current weather and flood situation.
