Wasim Akram says that Babar Azam should not have accepted Test captaincy.

Manchester – Former Pakistan Test captain Wasim Akram has called Babar Azam’s decision to take over as the national Test captain a mistake.

Speaking at a charity fundraising event in Manchester alongside Waqar Younis, Akram said he did not want to blame anyone and could be wrong, but felt Babar should not have accepted the captaincy.

“I don’t want to blame anyone and I may be wrong but I think Babar Azam should never have been captain. It was all unnecessary,” he said.

Akram said that Babar was asked about the seven players and coach changes in the toss of the third Test, to which Babar replied that he did not know.

“If you don’t know, what are you doing here?” Akram said.

He added that as a player and as a person, he believes that a player cannot give 100 percent if their leader or captain does not support them.

Akram said that after what happened after the second Test, Babar Azam should have said that he will play only as a player.
