KARACHI – A cargo flight from Sharjah to Karachi turned into a growing mystery on Tuesday night when the K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 suddenly lost contact with air traffic control. K2 Airways has identified the five crew members on board its missing Boeing 737-400 cargo plane as an extensive search and rescue operation was underway after the plane went missing en route from Sharjah to Karachi.

The cargo plane lost contact with Air Traffic Control at around 9:21 PST due to a malfunction in the navigation system while arriving in Karachi. The missing crew include Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris who was the pilot in command, First Officer Faisal Mehmood, Load Master Muhammad Taufiq Khan, Engineer Arif Siddiqui and Engineer Muhammad Hamid.

In a statement, K2 Airways released the names and photos of the crew, saying it was in close coordination with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and other government agencies involved in the ongoing search. The airline said it continued to pray for the safe recovery of its colleagues as rescue teams worked to determine the plane’s whereabouts.

The disappearance of the freighter has triggered a massive search operation involving multiple agencies. After reports that the plane crashed in the Arabian Sea, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force and other authorities have been mobilized to search the suspected area.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over the incident and expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of the 5 crew members. He directed the Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force to intensify the search mission, directing the authorities to deploy all available resources to search for the missing aircraft and its occupants.
