Panjab University has started an investigation into the poultry kept in the campus.
LAHORE – Punjab University has sought an explanation from the director of its electrical engineering department after it came to light that chickens were allegedly kept in the department’s premises.
According to the university spokesperson, Dr. Kamran, director of the electrical engineering department, was rearing chickens inside the department. The chickens were reportedly removed from the premises late at night after a video of the poultry setup surfaced.
The spokesperson said Dr. Kamran refused to divulge the details of the questions asked by the security administration of the university. The management has now sought an official clarification, noting that it had not taken prior approval to keep chickens in the department.
Responding to the controversy, Dr. Kamran said that a separate seating area has been created for female students and animals and birds have been kept only to enhance the ambience and aesthetics of the department.
