Sindh reduces Eid-ul-Adha 2026 holidays to three days – Pakistan Today
The Sindh government has reduced the public holidays of Eid-ul-Azha 2026 from four days to three through a Corrigendum issued on May 23. The revised schedule now matches the federal government’s holiday plan from May 26 to 28.
KARACHI: The Sindh government has revised the holiday schedule for Eid-ul-Azha 2026 through a corrigendum issued on May 23, reducing the break from four days to three.
According to the revised notification, 9, 10 and 11 Dhul Hajj 1447 Hijri will be a public holiday across the province on 26, 27 and 28 May 2026 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Corrigendum applies to all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils functioning under the administrative control of the Government of Sindh.
However, the notification states that essential services will be exempted from the holiday schedule. It also states that the departments and offices involved in the preparation of the budget for 2026-27 will not come under the public holiday arrangement.
In addition, the revised decree states that Friday, May 29, the day of 12 Dhul-Hijj, will be observed as a work-from-home day.
The latest decision will replace an earlier order issued on Friday under which the provincial government had declared Eid-ul-Azha holidays from May 26 to May 29.
The latest Sindh holiday schedule now coincides with the federal government’s Eid-ul-Adha holidays on May 26, 27 and 28.
Sighting of the moon and date of Eid
Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated in Pakistan on May 27 after the central Sighting of the Crescent Committee announced that the Zil-Hajj moon would be sighted on May 17.
The announcement was made after a committee meeting at Pakistan Meteorological Department in Karachi.
Chance and observation
Eid al-Adha is also known as the Eid of Sacrifice and refers to the Qur’anic statement that Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) expressed his willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah, before the sacrifice was replaced by a ram.
The religious festival of Eid is celebrated with prayers, family gatherings and charity work. It also involves the ritual of animal sacrifice, the meat of which is distributed among relatives, friends and needy people.
The Corrigendum specifically mentions the revised holiday dates as May 26, 27 and 28, 2026. It also states that Friday, May 29, will not be observed as a public holiday but will instead be observed as a work-from-home holiday.
The move brings the province’s vacation plan in line with the federal schedule after Sindh’s earlier notification provided for a longer break.
