A man from Mumbai raped a woman by pretending to be a transgender.
MUMBAI – Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in the Indian city of Mumbai who allegedly entered a woman’s home disguised as a transgender and sexually assaulted her.
A case was registered after the woman reported the alleged incident to the police station. Investigators later examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the investigation.
According to the police, the CCTV footage allegedly showed a man wearing a saree and getting into an autorickshaw after the incident. Investigators traced his movements and arrested him from a settlement in the Khari Gaon area of the police station, the report said.
Police alleged that the suspect told investigators that he had entered the home by disguising himself as a transgender person who entered the home posing as someone who could perform a ritual to ward off the effects of the evil eye.
He allegedly lured the woman into the bedroom on the pretext of performing a ritual and then sexually assaulted her by threatening her.
Investigators also reportedly found that the suspect used various disguises to contact people, including a transgender person and a beggar.
Police are continuing their investigation in this case.
