Mir Raza’s family rejected the Sindh government’s decision to form a judicial commission.
KARACHI – The family of Mir Raza, a young businessman from Karachi, has rejected the Sindh government’s decision to set up a judicial commission to investigate his death.
Mir Raza’s father’s lawyer Jibran Nasir said the family would approach the Sindh High Court on Monday to form a joint investigation team (JIT) and oppose the judicial commission.
Nasir said that the Judicial Commission was formed without informing Mir Raza’s family while its Terms of Reference (TORs) were also not made public.
He said that the police investigation report was to be submitted before the magistrate on Monday and questioned why the Sindh government had announced the judicial commission before the police had submitted its findings.
“Is it because the government already knows the results of the police investigation and disagrees with it?” Nasir asked.
He also questioned why a JIT was not formed and why the alleged criminal behavior of the police officers was not investigated.
‘We have been dissatisfied with the investigation from the beginning’
In a video statement released with her parents, Mir Raza’s sister said the family came to know about the judicial commission through the media.
He said the police were supposed to submit their report by August 24, but the report is yet to be made public and the family has not been informed about the commission’s terms of reference.
“Do they already know what’s in the report? We don’t agree with that decision,” he said.
Mir Raza’s sister said the family was dissatisfied with the investigation from the beginning and questioned the basis for setting up the commission when the police probe was not completed.
He said that the family had written a letter to the Sindh Chief Minister on August 19, raising several questions and requesting the formation of a JIT.
He said that we will approach the High Court tomorrow morning. We oppose judicial commission.
