There is no harm in dropping senior players if it benefits the team, says Babar.

LONDON – Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has said there is no problem in dropping a senior player from the playing XI, insisting that whoever is best for the team will be selected.

Addressing a press conference in London ahead of the second Test, Babar admitted that Pakistan were suddenly falling apart after a good partnership.

“We are trying to address that weakness,” Babar said, explaining that when a new batsman comes to the crease, the established batsman is often out early.

Commenting on the pitch, Babar said that the surface is looking grassy and the final playing XI will be decided later. He added that no player is insignificant and sometimes players are given opportunities to boost their confidence.

Babar also said that wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan was under no pressure.

The Pakistan captain emphasized that the onus rests on the entire playing XI and cannot be placed on the bowlers alone.

He said that it cannot happen that the bowlers take 20 wickets and the batsmen do nothing.

Babar confirmed that he is fully fit and will take part in the Lord’s Test. He added that Pakistan’s aim is to complete the hat-trick of victories at a magnificent venue.
