At the United Nations General Assembly, Trump once again described Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as a ‘wonderful person’
New York – US President Donald Trump once again praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, calling the Pakistani prime minister “a wonderful person” during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Trump highlighted Sharif’s remarks about the US president’s role in saving millions of lives, saying the Pakistani prime minister credited him with helping save more than 30 million lives, and perhaps more.
Trump’s latest comments marked another public acknowledgment by Shahbaz Sharif as the US president used his UNGA address to discuss the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and Washington’s confrontation with Iran.
The remarks featured the Pakistani prime minister in Trump’s wide-ranging United Nations address, which focused heavily on Iran, military operations and US foreign policy.
In April this year, Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership for public praise, praising Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir in a message. The US president called Sharif a “great prime minister” of Pakistan and described Sharif and Munir as “two fantastic people”, indicating their continued public recognition for the country’s political and military leadership.
The exchange comes as Munir’s diplomatic profile continues to expand, with Pakistan’s military chief maintaining significant levels of contact with both the Trump administration and Iran’s security establishment.
Turning to Iran, Trump said he had tried to make a deal with Tehran but claimed Iran had refused. He said that Iran had previously bullied countries in the Middle East but claimed that it was no longer in a position to do so.
Trump has vowed again that he will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, accusing Tehran of pursuing nuclear capabilities and pursuing a ballistic missile program.
He also cited Operation Midnight Hammer, claiming that US military action targeted Iranian targets and prevented Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
