Rangers deployment in four districts of Punjab ahead of PTI protest
LAHORE – Security has been increased across Punjab after the federal government approved the deployment of Rangers in four districts amid security concerns.
According to sources, the Rangers will continue to be deployed in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali till October 5, 2026, which will provide additional support to the provincial law enforcement authorities.
Under the deployment plan, Rawalpindi will get three companies of Rangers while Attock has been allocated five wings of Rangers. Jhelum and Mianwali will get one Rangers company each.
The request for additional personnel was made in view of the current security situation in Punjab, with the provincial authorities seeking more support to maintain law and order in the four districts.
This appointment has been made after a formal request by the Punjab Police to the Federal Ministry of Home Affairs for additional assistance of Rangers. The request has been made through a letter written by Punjab Interior Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi, demanding deployment of Rangers personnel to strengthen security arrangements.
The federal government has cleared the way for the deployment of rangers in all four districts by approving the request.
Rangers will be deployed under relevant statutory provisions, including Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan, Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 and Sections 7(b) and 10 of the Pakistan Rangers Ordinance 1959. Law and order duties
After the approved deployment, additional Rangers personnel will be deployed in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali, the forces will remain in position till October 5. Rawalpindi will have three companies, Attock five wings, while Jhelum and Mianwali will get one company each.
