Metta has introduced strict restrictions on teenage users on Instagram, Facebook and Messenger.
Meta has introduced stricter safety restrictions for younger users of Instagram, Facebook and Messenger worldwide to increase online safety for young people.
In an official statement, the company said stricter new rules are being implemented on “teen accounts” for users 13 and older on its platforms.
Starting June 2, stricter content settings are being implemented globally on the accounts of minor users on all meta platforms.
This update was initially rolled out in October 2026 in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, and Canada, and is now being rolled out worldwide.
Meta said it will work with security organization Alice to develop new features designed specifically for younger users.
Under the new changes, teen users will no longer be able to view or follow accounts that often share inappropriate content. Such accounts will also be prevented from appearing in recommendations or search results for users under the age of 18.
In October, Instagram introduced these updated settings, which included steps to prevent minors from accessing certain search terms, such as those related to alcohol consumption.
A “restricted content” setting has also been added, which allows parents to limit access to comments, including preventing teens from seeing comments on their own posts.
