A Pakistani woman has been convicted of a $64 million fraud in the US under the guise of a daycare center.

A Pakistani woman has been sentenced to six years and four months in prison for defrauding the US government of nearly $64 million.

A federal judge in New York upheld the conviction in a fraud and racketeering case. The court also ordered the woman to pay $56 million and approved the forfeiture of nearly $5 million worth of assets.

The woman, identified as Zakia Khan, allegedly set up a day care center for the elderly and used the facility to fraudulently obtain payments from the US government.

Khan was arrested in 2024 and later confessed to the crime during the proceedings.

A federal court in New York handed down its decision on the case on Wednesday, ending the proceedings with prison terms, financial penalties and asset forfeiture.
